JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

SOURCING

Investment Thesis / Themes

Work alongside the CIO in developing the investment strategy by formulating key hypothesis, validation and identifying investment related risks

Lead pipeline and screening of deal flows

New deal development and analysis – networking with investment banks and other sources for deal generation, validation of industry thesis, development of investment angles, competitive industry and market analysis

Building Relationships and Investment acumen

Learning and following the dynamics of the industries covered; building relationships with management teams, the firm's senior advisors, as well as external advisors and industry experts; identifying attractive investment themes and opportunities; gathering and synthesizing industry and market data

Be able to source, validate & understand investment risks through network relationships

Be able to reach out to "right people" at peer level to effectively evaluate an opportunity

Leading the origination efforts and holding experience of working both with promoter / family run and professionally managed businesses

Take lead in framing / validating analysis on deal attractiveness. Ensures team validate all elements of investment theses / risks

INVESTMENT

Deal Structuring

Extensive analysis on potential investments, including overseeing in-depth financial modelling; Proficiency in structuring deals to achieve returns / mitigate risks

Drafting and presenting oral and written materials to management and investors

Necessary understanding of taxation and accounting matters to evaluate various aspects of a deal. Work with legal /tax advisors to optimize deal structure and address all fiscal inefficiencies

Assisting in negotiations of price and non-price terms on deals and coordinating due diligence

Due Diligence and Closure

Perform reference checks

Managing the due diligence process, including overseeing legal, tax, and commercial diligence advisors

Ensure risks identified by team / Investment Committee are adequately addressed at diligence stage. Focus diligence efforts on key investment thesis and risks

Identify bottlenecks leading to delays if any and pointing out red flags

Plays a key role in negotiating commercials and leads documentation

Ensure terms secured are with robust security and adequate legal protection

POST INVESTMENT AND EXIT

Develops strong relations with promoter, CEO and key management personnel; keeps tab on progress against critical strategic risks and initiatives identified

Monitor adherence to commercial terms agreed; timely reporting to Investment Committee an accurate and unbiased view on performance of portfolio including future performance (surprises, shocks etc)

Intensively involved with portfolio companies, not just at the Board and Committee level but also at a deeper level - in helping them with strategic issues such as managing growth, building teams, restructuring the business, evaluating expansion plans and managing relationships with key counterparties such as lenders, JV partners, service providers etc.

Lead the identification and definition of value creation initiatives across portfolio companies

Monitor the sector and the related investments for exit ideas

TEAM BUILDING

Creates opportunities for juniors to fill knowledge, skill gaps; ensure they have steep development /learning curve

Takes lead on building initiatives; benchmarks with peers, best practices and provides inputs to CIOs on changes required

Ability to join a small dedicated team of professionals taking it from inception through to a large corporation. Should be able to manage an investment team and work in the team culture of the organisation.

Recruits, mentors and develops strong team of investment professionals

Ensures team stays motivated, high employee satisfaction scores and low attrition levels

KEY SKILLS

Key attributes of the successful candidates would be:

10 – 15 years of overall experience; a minimum 6 – 8 years of India Private Equity buy-side experience is strongly preferred preferably with the Infrastructure Sector

Strong written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of finance and accounting and basic level of legal understanding relevant to the PE investments is required; ability to interact with top management teams is a must

Understanding of business dynamics across key infrastructure sub sectors, characteristics of good investments, and good financial and analytical skills are expected

Outstanding academic background with undergraduate degree from IITs / equivalent qualification, along with post graduate degree in business / accounting from premier institutes

Understanding of key infrastructure sectors and associated issues with key understanding of equity investment in infrastructure projects

Ability to operate with limited supervision. Dedicated team player with a strong sense of ownership; eager to learn and work with others.
